Sadism is encountered in many ways in life. There are numerous forms of sadism. Not every form is sexual in nature or has to do with BDSM. Some are just mean people, others feel sexual pleasure when they can torture others. Sadism is tormenting, inflicting pain or even causing fear and getting pleasure from it.
What is sadism?
As described above in short form, sadism means to cause pain, torment, torture, fear. But now we would like to go into a little more detail about the definition of sadism. Whoever lives out sadism, feels satisfaction in doing so. So a sadist enjoys harming others.
For a long time, sadism was considered a serious mental illness, which it can still be today in extreme cases. The term was first used in 1866 by a German psychiatrist. He derived the word from the French writer Donatien Alphonse François Marquis de Sade. A man who published pornographic works that included acts of lustful violence.
Meanwhile, sadistic has lost meaning when it comes to the medical field. Since 2013, it has tended to be found only in the BDSM field, rather than being traded as a recognized disorder. Just as it is with masochism, which is the opposite of sadism.
What is a sadist?
Well what is a sadist really? Is it simply a bad person who likes to make life hell for others? In some respects, perhaps it is. Yes, with great certainty there are such people. And yes, they are sadists.
A sadist takes pleasure in inflicting suffering on others, in various forms.
Some sadists like to cause physical pain, other sadists prefer mental pain. There are also those who like to cause real anxiety and enjoy it when the anxious part really goes down with it. A narrow meaning of sadist does not exist. There are different forms and ranges of expression. In any case, the sadist feels satisfaction in his actions.
Different forms of sadism
Sadism is, as already mentioned, quite versatile. There are sexual forms of sadism, but also purely psychological types that have nothing sexual about them. In addition, there is also compensatory sadism.
Sadist in the BDSM area / sexual sadism
The sexually seen sadism is to be pushed into the BDSM division. Sadistic sex is very rough and can be quite painful for the submissive part. The sexual arousal / lust is lived out like a drive and encouraged by the suffering of the partner.
Often the subs are worked on with electro sex toys during foreplay, or tied up, whipped, beaten. During the act, the body is grabbed hard. The arms are twisted painfully on the back. The submissive part is choked and pulled by the hair. These are just a few examples to show you a little more pictorially. Very popular with these sexual preferences are also role-playing and especially rapeplay.
Non-sexual sadism
The non-sexual sadism is the psychological sadism. No sadistic preferences are lived out in the sexual life. But for it gladly in the everyday life. The sadist oppresses the submissive partner and humiliates him where he can. He exposes him, finds satisfaction and inner peace when he can really finish his counterpart.
The counterpart should cry, break down. The sadist wants to dominate his counterpart by force and to be able to rule over him. This kind of sadism is not always done with mutual consent. So also mobbing in the family, school or at work, is already often a kind of light sadism.
Compensation sadism
This is not a kind of sexual foreplay or pleasure-giving sadism. The sadism completely replaces the sexual act. The compensation sadist has no sexual life. He replaces it with physical and psychological humiliation and torture of other people.
Causes of sadism
For a long time psychiatrists have researched to trace the causes of sadism. It should be determined what is the trigger for these partial sexual preferences, what constitutes their origin. Since not every saddist has the same preferences, no fixed reason can be determined.
An underlying mental illness does not always have to be present. Therefore, it is medically no longer relevant, but, rather to be considered as a BDSM act. There are people who become sadists for no reason at all. But then there are also those who want to compensate something. The own insecurity should be covered up.
Or it has a deeper reason, which may come from childhood. Some have experienced traumatic events, which could have triggered the sadism. Experienced acts of violence such as violent beatings or even abuse often speak for sadistic tendencies.
However, these are only assumptions. What makes one a sadist is not really known. If you are a sadist, please ask yourself why you are like that. Because only you can find the reason or the cause.
When sadism becomes a danger
Sadism can quickly become a danger when you are no longer in control of your actions. As a sadist, the masochist's life is entirely in your hands. There must be mutual consent for the actions. Trust must be established beforehand. Clear agreements before practicing sadomasochism are the be-all and end-all!
As in most hardcore games, a traffic light word / code word is very important. If someone says the correspondingly chosen word, the sadistic game has to be stopped directly.
If you notice that sadism is getting out of control, you should seek appropriate help. Sadism as a sexual preference is one thing. But if it then turns into criminal acts of violence, the fun is over. You are committing a crime and definitely suffer from a mental disorder, which needs to be treated.
Even a sadist has limits and has to know and keep them. For sadistic games that aim at physical violence, it is important that you deal with human anatomy in order not to cause serious damage to your "victim".
For the masochist, it is important to have a stable psyche to be able to withstand it all.
It is always important that such practices are acted out thoughtfully. Pain and harm should be inflicted, but only in a playful sense, so that it is satisfying and to be administered to all involved.
