You have a fetish? So what? One in six people has a preference for special sex practices. So you are certainly not alone with your special preference.
Unusual sex is becoming more and more common in bedrooms at home. Fetishism itself is no longer a taboo subject.
Sexual excitement
There are over 500 different fetishes in total. There are very small fetishes that are hardly recognized as such. But there are also the big known fetishes like the nylon fetish or the latex fetish.
In addition, there are very unusual fetishes such as the balloon fetish or the diaper fetish. No matter what preference you have, you are certainly not alone.
Typical fetishes that are no secret
Very typical fetishes are the preferences for latex, lacquer and leather. Many live out the typical dominance and submission game and make no secret of it. Bondage is also a fetish that many talk about. BDSM in itself is very extensive and can combine different fetishes.
Some are talked about with pleasure, others are rather only lived out, so behind closed doors. The foot fetish, for example, is actually also a very typical preference, which is practiced but rather in secret. Also the nylon fetish is not necessarily worn outwardly.
No man will gladly admit to wearing nylon pantyhose or to smell it after a woman has worn it. Far more secretly it goes however with other fetishes.
Gladly practiced, but not talked about
Some fetishes are very special. The diaper fetish, for example, belongs to the sexual preferences that are practiced, but about which no one speaks freely. The diaper fetish is about surrendering completely to the other and being taken care of.
Relieving oneself in diapers and then having the partner change them turns the fetish practitioner on. If a man likes to wear women's clothes, he likes to be labeled as homosexual. Therefore, this is also a type of fetish that the man does not like to talk about.
Because just because the man likes to wear nylons, women's underwear or dresses, it doesn't mean that he doesn't like women. So the women's clothing fetish has nothing at all to do with homosexuality.
A fetish is not a must
You prefer to have simple sex, without gimmicks and big specialties? Then you don't need to be ashamed or hide for it.
Even if in the course of time more and more fetishes come to light, this does not mean that you also have to live out one. Always do only what really gives you pleasure and joy.
Fetish and fetishism: definition
The word fetish is derived from the French fétiche and Portuguese feitiço. It refers to a special preference for certain things. For objects that are particularly beautiful and valuable. Among other things, these things are also said to have a magical or divine quality.
So was at least once the original definition of fetish.
It was not until much later, towards the end of the 19th century, that the terms fetish and fetishism took a place in medicine. In psychology, it was now associated with sexuality. Sex preferences to certain objects such as high heels or body parts were described with it.
Siegmund Freud
Siegmund Freud also dealt with the issue of sexual fetishism and declared it a disease. He portrayed it as a perversity which needed to be cured.
It is often believed that fetishism describes a particular sexual practice, that is, a preference for something specific during sex. For example, it might describe a preference for role-playing or bondage. But actually, sexual fetishism is a bit different.
Just because you prefer kink sex, that is, something out of the ordinary, doesn't make you a fetishist. You just like to have more fun in bed than others.
A fetish is rather to only go for certain body parts.
You can't do without feet? Then you have a foot fetish. However, pieces of clothing can also become a fetish. For example, there are men who buy worn panties to smell, taste and then pour themselves in the female scent. This is also a fetish and you then accordingly a fetishist.
If you are into special sexual practices, you are a BDSMler. Often, however, the transition between fetish and BDSM is actually fluid. It can be effortlessly intertwined, which is why often the individual definitions are almost dispensed with.
In the BDSM area there are many preferences that can be lived out. Among other things, the diaper fetish often appears here, linked with the preference to submit baby-like. Fetish and power imbalance are connected with each other here.
When is a fetish pathological?
A fetish can actually become a disease. As wonderful as it can be, it can also become dangerous. So Sigmund Freud was perhaps not entirely wrong in saying that a fetish is something pathological.
The fetish becomes pathological when you really only have your special preference in mind and can no longer cope with your normal everyday life. It becomes dangerous when you harm yourself or even cause harm to others.
Fetish dangers
For yourself there is also a psychological danger if your fetish takes over your thinking and you act according to your urges. You should seek professional help. First and foremost to protect yourself, but also to avoid becoming a danger to others.
At the latest, when you do something that the other person does not want, it is too late. Then you have a mental illness, which must be treated immediately.
As a fetishist you must always watch yourself and your thoughts very closely. It is in your care to live out the fetish with fun and not to let it become a danger.
